Water Wash Painting Furniture
Clean Wood Furniture with Vinegar and Olive Oil.
Water wash painting furniture. If you are looking for a more opaque finish try using more paint and less water. Here you can see where the diluted paint has been applied. You can apply the color wash with a paint brush.
Dip a soft scrub brush into a bucket of warm water containing a squirt or two of dish soap or an eco-friendly all-purpose soap. To create the wash on the painted body of this dresser I used a 21 ratio of latex paint and water or approximately 23 paint to 13 water. Apply a sealer after the whitewash is dry.
Mix white latex paint with water in a 11 ratio which will give you a nice transparent look. Dilute white paint with water if water-based or turpentine if oil-based. Paint a one-toned wash by using thinner or solvent mixed with one color.
But you can play around with whatever consistency you are comfortable with. Dont use a dishwashing detergent as this will be too harsh on your painted wood surfaces. This creates an even wash of pale tint.
Try it on unfinished pieces with paneling details for the wash to accentuate like the cabinet pictured. Use a leftover scrap of wood to check your paints consistency. Adjust the amounts of paint and water until you find a proportion you think will work well for a particular piece of furniture.
It really is a simple technique and makes such a big difference on those orangey-wood-toned- pieces of furniture out there. Using this combination brings out the shine while removing water stains from wood furniture. Color particles are suspended in an acrylic polymer and offer a pop of rich color with a smooth finish.
