White Wax On Painted Furniture
Adds a light layer of protection to your furniture.
White wax on painted furniture. Many poeple opt to add wax to furniture that will see water such as a side table or kitchen table. You can see a list of Lime waxes below. White Wax on Painted Furniture I recently painted a hutch in Aubusson Blue Chalk Paint and when I was done it looked a little well blue.
When the wax hardens it seals the painted surface with a lovely natural looking soft sheen. For that reason I carefully clean it first. The wood was in pretty rough shape with some deep gouges on the top so I opted for painting the top.
I painted this side table blue and it looked great but then I highlighted the details with white wax over chalk paint and the table was stunning. If this is a yes wax is a must. When using chalk paint the time you arent spending on sanding and priming will be spent on waxing your piece.
You can see where I use it and how to whitewash painted furniture where a similar wash is applied over a painted lingerie chest to soften the finish. Very easy to use my new favorite. This explains why all the blog-land-tutorials on Annie Sloans White Wax are demonstrating its effect on painted furniture which is beautiful btw.
Ultimately the reason furniture wax is sold as the topcoat of choice for wax and milk paints is that unlike poly it will settle down into the porous paint finish and cure up over time. Lime wax is also used sometimes to give a piece of furniture a whitewash finish. The first step is to pour water into a container and place your wax in the water.
The wax creates a pickling white washed effect on wood or paint. Wait for a couple of minutes until the wax melts off a bit. When scratched it wont flake off in big chunks like poly because in essence it becomes part of the paints finish.
